Xherdan Shaqiri has become the Third Liverpool to test positive for corona-virus in the last seven days.Two other Liverpool are also confirmed to have tested positive for Covid-19- Sadio Mane,and Thiago Alcantara.

Players jetted off on Monday to join up with their national teams as domestic football takes a break for the next 10 days.

A statement read: Xherdan Shaqiri has tested positive for Covid-19. In consultation with the health authorities, he isin isolation.

Lastweek, Thiago Alcantara became the first Liverpool player to go public after contracting the virus.

Then Sadio Mane followed suit on Frida, having missed training at Melwood after also testing positive.

Shaqiri has played once for the Reds this season, in the Carabao Cup at Lincoln on 24 September and has not made a Premier League match-day squad.

Liverpool has become one of many hotreds for Covid-19 in the country in recent weeks.

But Xherdan Shaqiri remains undeterred committing his future to the clu in a statement on the Swiss FA’s website

He said: “I have decided to stay put with Liverpool.”

” You always have speculation in football. The ,media write a lot, but in the end I am still at Liverpool

“I have a long-term contract, and I also feel really good with them”

How was the positive test announce?

Shaqiri departed Liverpool this week to join the Switzerland national team ahead of their fixtures against Croatia, Spain and Germany.

He arrived at the team hotel on Monday and the Swiss FA announced that he had tested positive for the virus the morning after.

” Xherdan Shaqiri has tested positive for Covid 19,” they said in a statement. ” We are clarifying how to proceed with the local health authorities”

What match will Xherdan Shaqiri miss?

Shaqiri must now self isolate for 10 days, ruling him out of the entire international break.

Liverpool’s next match – the Merseyside derby away Everton- is in eleven days time on Octoer 17, meaning it is unlikely he will feature

However, Shaqiri has long fallen out of favour at Liverpool. He featured in only seen Premier League games last season.

His only appearance in the current campaign has been in the Carabao Cup
