The Euro 2020 postponed to 11, June 2021, due to the coronavirus outbreak, officially confirmed by UEFA.

On Tuesday the European governing body UEFA held a teleconference. The meeting comprising of its 55 associate members, the European Club Association representing about 250 clubs across continents, the European Leagues representing 32 leagues and also a representative from Fifpro.

Euro 2020 has now been confirmed by UEFA and will become Euro 2021 which will kick off next years 11 June, and the final 11 July.

The health of all involved in the game is important and of major priority. Also to avoid putting fans and public services under pressure if the competition was to be held this year. The discussion will help all other competitions, being help due to the coronavirus to continue and be completed.

All Matches relating to UEFA, either competitions or friendlies for clubs and national teams for both males and females have been suspended till further notice. The matches scheduled for a match, that is the UEFA Euro 2020 play-off matches and international friendlies. will be played at the start of June, all these are causes of the present situation.

Aleksander Ceferin, Uefa President said: ” The well being of fans, staff, and players are our utmost priorities. And as such, UEFA has given several competitions the option to finish the season safely. I was proud of the response of my colleagues across European football. Everyone noting the fact to sacrifice something to achieve something greater shows the spirit of cooperation.

I would like to thank the president of Fifa Gianni Infantino and his members. He added, who has showed interest of doing what they can to make sure the new calendar work. Football has shown its wonderful sides with openness, solidarity, and tolerance during this crisis.

Initially, the competition was slated to hold this year from 12 June to 12 July across 12 cities in 12 different countries. Sports authorities had to make crisis plans, due to sports bans across Europe because of the virus outbreak.

The play of Euro 2020 which was to hold the end of this month, had to be postponed. The Champions League second leg of the last-16 scheduled to hold this week and also the quarter-finals of the competition have been postponed also.

UEFA rescheduled the play-off to another time this year because of the delay. Now set to June, to decide the 4 teams to qualify for the semi-final.

Finally, there is no new date for the remaining matches in the Champions League and Europa League. And the expected Women’s European Championships which was originally set for 2021, will now be postponed to 2022.
