According to several reports, the former president of Real Madrid, Lorenzo Sanz, died after contracting coronavirus on Saturday. He died at the age of 78 years old. Lorenzo sons, Lorenzo Sans Duran, confirmed his fathers death on Twitter speaking Spanish. “My dad just died. He did not merit to die in this manner. He was one of the best, bravest and hard working person i have known to leave us. His whole passion was his family and Real Madrid. with pride i, my siblings and our mother enjoyed all his moment. RIP.”
He spent five years during his tenure at the Bernabeu, from 1995-2000. Real Madrid won the Champions league title two times during his tenure. Breaking the drought of 38 years they won the title in 1998 and also again in 2000. They also won the La Liga in 1997. He had the responsibility of signing players to Real Madrid, players such as Davor Suker, Pedrag Mijatovic, Roberto Carlos and Clarence Seedorf. According to The Guardian. Lorenzo chose to be at home when he observed he was sick, so not to inundate the Spanish medical service. He later went on Tuesday to the hospital after experiencing a severe fever that lasted for eight days. Lorenzo Sanz was tested positive for the coronavirus, which he later had kidney failure and later on Saturday night he died.
He is survived by Mari Luz his wife, and fiver children: Lorenzo, Francisco, Fernado (was a Real Madrid defender from 1995 – 1999) and currently an ambassador for La Liga, Maria Luz (Malula) and Diana.
Over 24,000 cases have been reported for coronavirus in Spain, and about 1,400 deaths due to the respiratory disease.
