Ronaldo and Mendes donate to help crucial equipment like beds and hospital in the care units in Porto and Lisbon.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Jorge Mendes his agent made a donation of £1million (£920,000/$1.08 million), this is to help fight against coronavirus in three care units in Portugal.
Their donations will be use in buying important equipment for ICUs at the Santo Antonio hospital in Porto and Lisbon’s Santa Maria Hospital.
However, Lionel Messi and Pep Guardiola have made similar donations on Tuesday.
“Jorge Mendes contacted us, who with Cristiano Ronaldo volunteered to sponsor two care units for patients battling with the coronavirus, ” Santa Maria President Daniel Ferro said.
“Fans, monitors, infusion pumps, bed and every other equipment are available to make an intensive care unit equiped. This is to help the patients battling with coronavirus.”
Paulo Barbosa, the president of the board of Centro Hospitalar Universitario do Porto, expressed and showed how the donations from Ronaldo and Mendes would help the ICU.
Barbosa said. “The donation will help the opening of more 15 intensive care beds, monitors, and good equipped fans with other equipment,”.
“The Centro Hospitalar Universitario do Porto appreciated what Cristiano Ronaldo and Jorge Mendes did for the hospital, at the time the country needs every help they can get.”
Last week, Mendes had made a contribution to the Sao Joao hospital in Porto of 1,000 masks, 200,000 protective gowns and also ordered 8 ventilators for it to be distributed across Portugal to all hospitals.
Just like Ronaldo, Messi and Guardiola, a good number of other footballers have made a good donations to hospitals so to fight the current coronavirus outbreak.
Jose Mourinho, Ronaldos former coach at Real Madrid, also volunteered to help charity Age UK and also the community group Love Your Door step. He helped in packing and delivering food and other important items to the elderly living in north London.
£1m was also donated to charity by Robert lewandowski and his lovely wife Anna. Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka, Lewandowski team mate in Bayern Munich also made a donation of £1m to a ‘We Kich Corona’ fundraising they both started.
That was adding to the donation of £2.5m they made to the German national team to WirHelfen (WeHelp). This is another fundraising organisation in the country.
Toby Alderweireld, who is a defender in Tottenham has made a good approach.He pledged to make donation of “hundreds” of tablet computers to hospital and people at care home being quarantined so they can make video calls with friends and family.
