Roma consultant, Franco Baldini has reportedly drawn up a list of managers to succeed Coach Paulo Fonseca at Roma. Former Roma & Inter Milan coach Luciano Spalleti was also included.
According to Corriere Dello Sport, Baldini was seen in Spalleti’s home which triggered speculation regarding a return to Giallorossi.
President James Pallotta has assured Fonseca about his managerial position, claiming the Portuguese’s job is not at risk but the Roman newspaper still claims Baldini has set up a list of coaches for the position.
Luciano Spalleti was the last coach to lift a trophy with Romas but the negotiations with the former Zenit St Petersburg and their Inter Milan tactician could have hit the rocks.
He was previously linked with the job at Milan, but a move fell through because the coach is still under a lucrative €5.2million contract with Inter.
However, Coach Paulo Fonseca’s future at the Olimpico could depend on Roma results against Parma & Brescia.
The Portuguese coach must turn things around immediately after three consecutive defeats to AC Milan, Udinese & Napoli in Serie A.
The Gallialorossi has a poor run of results after their 2-1 win against Sampdoria. But has since been struggling to keep up with the top four in Italy.
Fonseca’s men currently sit 15 points behind fourth placed Atalanta with eight games remaining & are tied on the same points with Napoli.
Despite reports suggesting Fonseca is being supported by the board, the Portuguese coach can’t afford further setbacks.
