Real Madrid made an official statement yesterday announcing the transfer of Achraf Hakimi from Borussia Dortmund to Inter Milan. The Moroccan defender signed a five year deal with the Nerazzurri & will join InterMilan at the end of the domestic season.

Achraf Hakimi

He joined the Italian club for the sum of €40 million that will expire in 2025. Madrid has also added a buy-back clause in the Morrocan’s deal. He has been expected to return to Madrid after two seasons playing for Dortmund.

Hakimi is a complete Moroccan national team player, but he was born in Madrid. He already has 28 caps for his country and has scored two goals.

Hakimi

Hakimi joined Real Madrid in 2006 and rapidly progressed through the ranks of the youth team. He made a couple of appearances for the Los Blanco’s first team in the 2017/18 season. However, he was sent on a loan to Borussia Dortmund on a two-year loan deal.

At Dortmund, the Moroccan defender became a regular player for the German club as a right wing-back. His impressive form prompted the club to sign him permanently but was unable to agree on a fee with Real Madrid.

Chelsea and Inter, hungry for Achraf Hakimi

Hakimi caught the eye of Chelsea and Inter Milan who appeared to be in desperate need of his services. Chelsea was looking forward to strengthening the left-back position of the team due to Emerson & Marcos Alonso’s loss of form. The London club will turn their attention to Leicester City Ben Chilwell after losing the battle to sign Hakimi.

Inter Milan confirmed the deal via the club’s website. The 21-year-old will stay with the Nerazzurri until June 2025. However, the Italian club is trying to secure a permanent deal for Victor Moses with the Nigerian international likely to return to England when his loan deal expires.

Antonio Candreva & Ashley Young are both in the twilight of their career, the Nerazzurri are scouting for younger wing-backs. Achraf Hakimi is now a long term solution for Inter Milan and his arrival is expected to bolster Antonio Conte’s team. According to Fabrizio Romano, the fee is around 40 million euros with an additional 5 million euros as add ons. The Moroccan full-back has made 73 appearances so far for Dortmund scoring 12 goals & 17 assists for the German club.
