Leipzig edge passes Athletico Madrid in their quarter-final match on Thursday. The match saw Athletico lose a place in the semifinal of the champions league competition.

The two teams met in a quarterfinal match which was played as a straight qualifier without a second leg to be played.

After a goalless first half, Leipzig came in the second half to take the lead. A goal was recorded in the 50th minute of the game in favor of Leipzig. However, it was a brilliant header that came from Dani Olmo and the ball went past Jan Oblak.

The German club was on their way to victory not until Joao Felix came off from the bench to equal the scoreline. Felix got an advantage after he was taken down in the box of Leipzig. And he later converted the penalty to keep the scoreline on level ground. As the game became balanced, it was looking like it would end in a dramatic 1-1 draw and there will be extra time. Cue Tyler Adams struck Athletico in the 88th minute with an outside shot which was deflected into the goal post to give Leipzig the lead.

After eleven years of formation, Leipzig finds themself in the champions league semi-final. The achievement is not just incredible for the club but also for the manager.

Leipzig manager, Julian Nagelsmann has broken a record in the champions league. He became the first coach to qualify for the champion league semi-final at the of 33. Nagelsmann who was born when Diego Simeone began his professional football debut has won against the athletic Madrid manager in the champions league match.

He has done more than some top club managers at his current age which some couldn’t do at that same age.

He was the former coach for Hoffenheim under 19 team. And now will be preparing to play in the semi-final of the champions league. Following the victory against one of the greatest football tactician.
