Inter Milan chief executive, Giuseppe Marotta has insisted that the club will not sell the forward amid links to Barcelona. The Argentine striker has been a long term target for the La Liga champions all through the current campaign. After his impressive display prior to the extended pause due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
The striker’s form dwindled since with the forward scoring 16 goals prior to the season being halted in March & just one goal in six matches since the restart. He also missed a penalty as Inter lost 2-1 against Bologna at the weekend.
Inter Milan CEO, who’s not keen to let the 22-year-old leave, says Martinez has to rediscover his peace of mind & focus on finding his form. Marotta told sky sports Italia “There are factors to consider, the competitive one & the transfer market which run concurrently”. Marotta further stated “Inter Milan don’t want to sell the 22-year-old lad like him. But this is a time when rumors are flying about. Lautaro as a great player caught the eye in the first half of the season. The Argentine has been linked with a number of big clubs, not just Barcelona”.
Barcelona on the other hand has no intention of activating the release clause in Lautaro Martinez contract at Inter Milan. But the La Liga giants are still keen to thrash out a deal for the Argentine. The La Liga giants have been reluctant to enter into discussions at that asking price & are prepared to wait before opening any negotiations with Inter.
Bartomeu not ready to sign Lautaro Martinez
Barca president Josep Maria has told RAC1 when quizzed on the reported interest that Barca holds on to Lautaro. “I am not talking about transfers. We have not marked the signings in the calendar for when they should be completed. However, Inter Milan Chief has insisted that he’s not selling his players. Unless there is a desire on the part of the player to leave. Lautaro Martinez has given little away when it comes to his future plans Barcelona believe an agreement can be reached.
However, Inter Milan have continued to think about the transfer market in this season As Ivorian midfielder Frank Kessie remains a target after the club showed interest in January. After the defeat against Bologna & especially after the words of Antonio Conte in the post-match, it is clear that the squad of Inter would change immensely for next year.
After the official transfer of Ashraf Hakimi, Inter also wants to strengthen the midfield area. The big goal seems to be Brescia’s Tonali but he won’t be the only player in that department. According to Sky Sports, Kessie returns to being a target for Inter Milan & Antonio Conte after the Nerazzurri team had already tried it in January.
The Argentine forward would remain at Inter Milan as his exit clause had expired last week. The Serie A giants will now look to negotiate a new deal for the 22-year-old with his current contract expiring in 2023. Barcelona could commence interest in their long term target if he declines a new deal in Milan. But they are unwilling to pay more than the previous clause of €111million. Barcelona could turn their attention to other targets in the coming months. With PSG star Neymar consistently linked with a return to Catalonia.
