Pep Guardiola said the player has refused to extend his contract with Mancity ahead of the champions league round 16 matches against Real Madrid.

Guardiola said. He announced to us that he doesn’t want to extend his contract with Manchester City. He only has one year left, and after that, he doesn’t want to extend. We want it, but he doesn’t want to. So I think he wants to play somewhere else.

Mancity has been short of defense since former captain Vincent Kompany left the club. After his contract ended at the end of his contract in 2019 summer. The issue increased and became worst when Aymeric Laporte sustained an injury and was away for five months. John stones and Nicholas Otamendi have also lost form.

Eric Garcia made himself a key player for Pep Guardiola since football restarted. After he featured in the match against Liverpool. He also made an appearance against Arsenal in the FA Cup semi-final match. He is likely to feature against Real Madrid in the champions league round 16-second leg.

Garcia made his decision not to extend his contract after City finish the signing of fellow center-back Nathan Ake from Bournemouth. Mancity is planning on rebuilding their team after the finished second on the table. They have also completed the signing of valencia’s winger Ferran Torres in addition to Ake. Increasing the defense is one of the priorities of Pep Guardiola and the club is eager to add a new left-back and another from Napoli which is likely, Kalidou Koulibaly.

Losing Garcia will be like a big blow for Mancity as they plan on building their defense and he will be one of their key defender in behind. The teenage boy has been praised for his understanding of the game at a young age. But his return to his boyhood club might too much for him.
