The Ballon d’Or for the world’s best player will not be carried out in 2020 due to the insufficient fair condition the coronavirus brought to football. The award has always been awarded by the French football since 1956.
Argentine international Lionel Messi won the last award for men prize in 2019. While USA Megan Rapinoe won the award for the female best. France football announced that there will no Ballon d’Or in 2020 due to ‘lack of sufficient fair conditions’. We did not want to put an indelible asterisk on the prize list as a trophy won in exceptional consequences due to the COVID-19 health crisis, it said.
Protecting the credibility and legitimacy of the award also means ensuring its flawlessness over time.
The French football also said they look forward to holding the award in 2021. But this year can be used to organize a vote forr the all-time greatest men’s XI.
