Austria and Germany share the same language and same border and now will play in the US Open final at the Arthur Ashe Stadium on Sunday. The Novak Djokovic-free Open has its unlikely final pairing as Germany Alexander Zverev faces Austria Dominic Thiem. The two German-speaking European seeded in the top 5. One of the two will win his first Grand Slam title.

That’s Because a german tournament referee bounced the no 1 player and overwhelming favorite, Djokovic in the fourth round when mistakenly hit a lineswoman with a tennis ball. Thiem was spewing German in a rant in the third set after he slipped on the wet spot. He already was nursing a balky ankle. He later composed himself and pulled off a slight upset over Russian Daniel Medvedev on Friday night semifinal.

However, It was a rematch of the Australian open semifinal last January when the Austrian won the four-setter capped by two straight tiebreakers. No Austrian had ever been in the Open Finals. The only Austrian to win a grand slam title was Thomas Muster in the 1995 French Open. Zverev is also into his first grand slam final after his comeback against Pablo Carreno Busta, who was on the court when Djokovic was disqualified.

Zverev, the big German has never won a game when down 0-2. But he finally did so at the perfect time, rallying to win a bizarre five-setter. No german has ever won the open since Boris Becker did in 1989. The final merge the monster serve vs the monster groundstrokes in one game.

Alexander Zverev statement after winning

Zverev said, “I was actually staring at the scoreboard when I was down two sets to love, and couldn’t believe it. “I am playing in the semifinal where I am supposed to be the most important and I am down two sets to love. “And I have no chance I am playing that bad.

Carreno Busta was in control over Zverev that in the second set he had three unforced errors unlike Zverev’s 19 in that frame. Zverev looked dead in the water against a sturdy opponent who had not dropped a set all tournament. Zverev had his rep when his first serve reached 136mph but too many holes exist on his backhand side and second serve.
