Women’s super league announced on Wednesday that Alex Greenwood has signed a contract with Manchester United. She joined City on Free transfer which will last for three years. Greenwood played with the Lyon female team who just won the champions league trophy.
Alex Greenwood began her career with Everton and played for Liverpool in 2016 and 2018. She also captained Manchester United to the FA Women Champions title in 2019 before she went to join Lyon last summer. Greenwood has now joined her fellow lioness teammate, Lucy Bronze who they both played together in Lyon and lifted the champions league trophy.
Greenwood told sky sports, “I think I am back in England at the right time. “The league is going from strength to strength. “The players who are coming over speaks for itself and I am really excited to be part of it.
“For me it’s about winning trophies. Manchester City’s ambition and ambition went hand in hand. “I am realistic, I know that we have got a few new players, but this club is about winning and the history speaks for itself. Domestically, they have won every single season and I am coming in to continue that and hopefully, that starts this season.
Meanwhile, Greenwood described winning the champions league as the best day of her life, and she is determined to bring the same prestige to her new club.
Greenwood also said, “I left on an unbelievable high at Lyon, a fantastic end to my time there. “I loved every minute of my time there and I learnt so much about myself as a person and as a player. “It was a day I want to relive all over again. If I can do that in Manchester City, it will be unbelievable to do it for a team in my own country.
Alex Greenwood featured in the England team that qualified world cup semifinal in 2018 and has appeared 46 times for the Lioness since 2014. In City, she will compete for the left-back position with Demi strokes, who has been in the club since 2015. Since she stay in the club, she has appeared 62 times. The duo also competes for the same position in the national team.
